Battery Technologies

  • NuPower has access to a range of battery technologies. These include: Normal lead acid all the way to Super capacitor technologies.
  • We partner with local and international companies to ensure we can deliver a world class technology and at the same time ensuring we can deliver our world class service level.
  • Battery bank lifespan will be dependent on this configuration. NuPower will ensure the optimum balance is found via monitoring of system.

Lead batteries

1 kWp installed PV power requires approximately 5kWh of battery:

  • 100 Ah accubank 48 Vdc
  • 200 Ah accubank 24 Vdc
  • 400 Ah accubank 12 Vdc

Lithium batteries

1,5 kWp installed PV power requires:

  • 100 Ah accubank 48 Vdc
  • 200 Ah accubank 24 Vdc
  • 400 Ah accubank 12 Vdc

BlueNova LifePo4 Lithium Cell

High energy density: The much greater energy density is one of the chief advantages of a lithium ion battery or cell.  One advantage of lithium ion cells is that their rate of self-discharge is much lower than that of other rechargeable cells such as Lead Acid.

These batteries can also sustain a much higher rate of discharge without compromising of the lifespan of the battery. These batteries are designed to work with Victron Energy Products Expected Lithium battery life, 5000 cycles @ 80% Discharge daily.

Although the price of these batteries is higher than your average solar deep cycle battery the space needed for installation of battery bank is much less. The expected life is also double.

Models: 12V, 24V, 48V  1kWh – 65kWh

The presence of Yttrium in the chemistry – a unique addition patented by our supplier –  has been proven to be highly effective in prolonging service life by acting as a buffer under high ambient temperature conditions.

Victron Super AGM Battery

A truly innovative battery

The AGM Super Cycle batteries are the result of recent battery electrochemistry developments.

The paste of the positive plates is less sensitive to softening, even in case of repeated 100% discharge of the battery, and new additives to the electrolyte reduce sulfation in case of deep discharge.

Exceptional 100% depth of discharge (DoD) performance. Tests have shown that the Super Cycle battery does withstand at least three hundred 100% DoD cycles. We recommend the Super Cycle battery for applications= where an occasional discharge to 100% DoD, or frequent discharge to 60-80% DoD is expected.

Smaller and lighter

An additional advantage of the new chemistry is a slightly smaller size and less weight compared to our standard deep cycle AGM batteries.

Low internal resistance

The internal resistance is also slightly lower compared to our standard deep cycle AGM batteries.
